Shakeel Ahmad resigns as AICC spokesperson, to file nomination as independent from Bihar's Madhubani

It may be noted that Madhubani Lok Sabha seat, a traditional turf for Shakeel Ahmad, has gone to Vikashsheel Insan Party (VIP)'s kitty, one of the five constituents of Grand Alliance, as per the seat sharing arrangement in the Mahagathbandhan.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Shakeel Ahmad on Monday resigned from the post of Senior spokesperson of All India Congress Committee (AICC) as he announced that he will be filing his nomination papers from Madhubani Parliamentary Constituency in Bihar the next day. Ahmad tweeted to inform that he will be filing his nomination papers from Madhubani on Tuesday and that he has sent his resignation to party chief Rahul Gandhi. As per reports, Ahmad will be filing his nomination as an independent candidate, as he was unhappy that his traditional turf went to ally Vikashsheel Insan Party under a seat sharing formula of the Grand Alliance. Earlier in the day, Ahmad had said while addressing mediapersons that he has demanded the support of the party. If the party high command does not extend support, he said he will contest as an Independent. VIP has named Badri Purbey as its nominee from Madhubani and has also filed his papers on the seat.  BJP has fielded Ashok Yadav, son of veteran parliamentarian Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav from the seat. Ahmad had pointed out that a RJD candidate was contesting against Congress candidate Ranjit Ranjan in Supaul. He argued that if RJD can support a candidate against an official Congress candidate, then why can't the Congress do the same in Madhubani. He asserted that the Grand Alliance candidate of VIP cannot defeat BJP in Madhubani. He had said earlier: “Congress leaders and workers are with me. I will have to contest to defeat the BJP in Madhubani.” It may be noted that Madhubani Lok Sabha seat has gone to Vikashsheel Insan Party (VIP)'s kitty, one of the five constituents of Grand Alliance, as per the seat sharing arrangement in the Mahagathbandhan. Grand Alliance comprises of RJD, Congress, RLSP, HAM(S) and VIP.
