Samajwadi Party Launches Manifesto For Lok Sabha Polls, Promises Caste-Based Census By 2025

Akhilesh Yadav unveiled Samajwadi party's poll manifesto 'Janta Ka Maang Patra - Humara Adhikar' on April 10 in Lucknow.

Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday launched his party's poll manifesto named 'Janta Ka Maang Patra - Humara Adhikar' for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. The manifesto promises a caste-based census by 2025 to ensure justice and equity for all by 2029. The party also aims to "end the Agnipath scheme and introduce regular recruitment in the armed forces," news agency PTI reported. 

The 'vision document' was released at the SP headquarters in Lucknow in the presence of senior party leaders.

In its manifesto, the party stated that by 2025, they will fill all government vacancies for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. By doing this they aim to ensure the participation of all sections of society in the private sector.

Highlights of Samajwadi Party's Manifesto

The SP has laid out several promises directed towards the welfare of the farmers. These include

  • A Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, including milk.
  • The calculation for MSP will be based on the Swaminathan Formula (C2+50%).
  • All farmers will be provided with a legal guarantee of MSP.
  • All agricultural loans, including those for landless farmers, will be waived off by 2024.
  • Irrigation for all the farmers will be made free of cost.
  • A Farmers' Commission to monitor agricultural loans and provide regular relief to farmers will be established.
  • All small and marginal farmers, including landless/tenant farmers will be provided a pension of Rs. 5000 per month.
  • All major agricultural states will have mandis every 10 kilometers 
  • A rolling fund of Rs. 10,000 crore to ensure timely payment for sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh will also be established.
  • Private agricultural laborers will be paid 40% of their wages through MGNREGA.

For the Youth and Employment, the Samajwadi Party has stated that it will increase the wages by Rs 450 and workdays by 150 under MGNREGA. Apart from this, the party has also guaranteed the following:

  • In the first session of the Parliament before 2024, a guarantee of urban employment similar to MGNREGA will be implemented. 
  • All vacant government positions will be filled immediately.
  • A National Employment Policy and Mission Employment will be established for everyone.
  • A laptop distribution scheme will be implemented for the youth across the nation.
  • Corruption in paper leaks and competitive exams will be completely eradicated.
