Lok Sabha Elections Results 2024 Live: In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, South India has become a pivotal arena for both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the I.N.D.I.A bloc. Welcome to our live coverage of the counting day for the Lok Sabha Elections held in South India. Stay tuned for real-time updates and results as votes are tallied across Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry.
In Telangana, with its 17 constituencies, major contenders include the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Congress and BJP. The 2019 elections saw BRS (formerly TRS) win 9 seats, BJP 4, INC 3, and AIMIM 1. This election is critical for BRS as it seeks to recover from recent Assembly Election setbacks, and for Congress to reinforce its position.
Tamil Nadu, with 39 parliamentary seats, is witnessing intense battles in key constituencies such as Chennai (South), Coimbatore, and Virudhunagar. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, leads a coalition including Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and MDMK. The AIADMK, aligned with Puthiya Tamilagam and DMDK, is the primary competitor. The BJP has formed alliances with Pattali Makkal Katchi, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam.
In 2019, DMK dominated with 38 seats, leaving AIADMK with only one.
In Andhra Pradesh, Lok Sabha elections coincide with state Assembly polls. The electoral fray in AP features YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) competing independently across all 25 seats. The NDA, led by BJP, has allied with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party.
Karnataka’s elections, held in two phases, see the BJP forming a pre-poll alliance with Janata Dal (Secular), contesting 25 and 3 seats respectively. Congress is contesting all 28 constituencies independently. However, the state’s election landscape was marred by controversy involving Prajwal Revanna of JD(S) in a sexual abuse allegation.
In Kerala, with 20 constituencies, the major players are the United Democratic Front (UDF) led by Congress, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) including CPI(M), CPI, and Kerala Congress (M), and the NDA represented by BJP and Bharath Dharma Jana Sena. The 2019 elections saw INC win 15 seats, CPI(M) 1, Revolutionary Socialist Party 1, Kerala Congress (M) 1, and IUML 2.
