Congress ‘not serious’ for alliance, AAP will contest on its own in Delhi, Haryana: Sanjay Singh

The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said it will contest the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on its own in Delhi and Haryana, hours after the sources informed that a tie-up between the Delhi's ruling party and the Congress in two states was sealed on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said it will contest the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on its own in Delhi and Haryana, hours after sources informed the Delhi's ruling party has sealed an alliance with the Congress in two states and also in Chandigarh. AAP leader Sanjay Singh told the media this evening that the Congress has refused to form an alliance in Haryana with his party, which was not in favour of a tie-up only in Delhi. The talks on the alliance between the AAP and Congress leaders have been called off following disagreement over a tie-up in Haryana and Delhi. The AAP leader claimed the Congress was not ready for "any kind of compromise" to stop the BJP in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections while his party was "ready" to join hands with the grand old party. "In order to stop the BJP, we were ready for an alliance with the Congress. But the Congress is not in a mood for any coalition. It is a matter of sadness that even after so many efforts, the Congress is not ready for any kind of compromise," ANI quoted Sanjay Singh as saying. "We held discussion with the Congress many times in the past few days. Yesterday, we talked to Ghulam Nabi Azad. We were deliberating on a 6:3:1 formula for Haryana but today Azad and Bhupinder Singh Hooda refused to go ahead," Singh told ABP News. We were engaged in a discussion with several Congress leaders including Ahmed Patel and PC Chacko, he said. "Now, the AAP will contest in Delhi and Haryana on its own with full might," Singh said and claimed the Congress was not "serious" for an alliance to stop the BJP. Earlier in the day, sources claimed the two sealed their alliance, in which Dushyant Chautala's JJP is also a partner, in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh. They had said the AAP agreed to contest on four Lok Sabha seats in the national capital while the Congress on remaining three, adding that the Congress in Haryana would field its candidates in six constituencies, the Jannayak Janata Party in three and the AAP in one. On Tuesday, a meeting was held at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence during which senior AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai, Sanjay Singh and Satyendra Kumar Jain were present. Following the meeting, the party said it is ready to have further discussion with the Congress and has appointed a representative to take the matter forward. The AAP has appointed Singh to hold the alliance talks. Amid a continuing blame-game over seat-sharing in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal on Monday engaged in a public spat, with the Congress president accusing the AAP of making a "U-turn" over alliance talks, prompting the Delhi chief minister to hit back at him. Gandhi had said while the doors of his party are open, time is running out, but Kejriwal slammed him, questioning what U-turn was he talking about as the talks were still on.
