Nadda Seeks Dilip Ghosh's Clarification On Remarks Against Mamata, BJP MP To Reply Officially

BJP MP from Medinipur, Dilip Ghosh had said that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee needed to 'fix the identity of her father' after which the TMC slammed the saffron party.

Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda has sought clarification from party MP Dilip Ghosh over his objectionable statement against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In a notice issued to Ghosh, it was said that the statement made by the Medinipur MP was "indecent and unparliamentary". Ghosh said that he would reply to the notice in a letter.

"Your statement given today is indecent and unparliamentary which is contrary to the traditions of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the party condemns such statements," the notice read.

Speaking to reporters, Ghosh said he would reply to the notice through a letter.

"This is not the first time that I have faced a controversy over my statement, because I speak in front of those who commit injustice," he said.

"Many people including the party said that I used unparliamentary language, if it is so then I express my sadness at it...I will give an official reply to the notice," Ghosh added.

The controversy erupted on Tuesday when Ghosh said that CM Mamata Banerjee needs to "fix the identity of her father".

During an election campaign trail in Bengal's Durgapur on Tuesday, Ghosh said, "When she goes to Goa, she says she is the daughter of Goa. When she goes to Tripura, she says she is the daughter of Tripura. First, fix the identity of your father. It’s not good to be everyone’s daughter."

The Trinamool Congress hit back at BJP and referred to the ongoing spat between the Congress and BJP over Supriya Shrinate's remark against Kangana Ranaut to slam the National Commission for Women as well.

TMC's Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev said, "The BJP and the NCW chief become so concerned when the matter is about a woman from the BJP. But when the question of Mamata Banerjee's honour comes, you become silent. You should be ashamed of yourselves."
