Lok Sabha Phase 3 Polling: Assam & Bengal Surge In Voter Turnout, While Maha Lags Behind At 42.6% Till 3 PM

Lok Sabha Elections Phase 3: Assam and Bengal see high voter turnout, but Maharashtra falls behind at 42.6%.

Lok Sabha Elections Phase 3: As the voting commenced on 92 seats across 12 states and Union Territories, the voter turnout recorded at 3 PM was 50.71%, as per the data shared by the Election Commission. According to the data, the voting percentage was highest in Assam and West Bengal and lowest in Maharashtra. 

Till 1 PM, the voter turnout was recorded at 39.92 pecent . Among the states which went for polling in this phase, West Bengal was leading with more than 49 percent, while Maharashtra recorded the least turnout with 31.5 percent.

The states witnessing polling today include Assam (4 seats), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (7), Goa (2), Gujarat (25), Karnataka (14), Madhya Pradesh (8), Maharashtra (11), Uttar Pradesh (10), West Bengal (4), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (2). Among the key candidates are Union ministers Amit Shah, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mansukh Mandaviya, Parshottam Rupala, Pralhad Joshi, and SP Singh Baghel.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote in his home state Gujarat during Phase 3 of ongoing polls. He exercised his franchise in a polling booth located on the premises of Nishan Higher Secondary School in the Ranip area. Tight security measures were implemented outside the polling booth in Ranip where PM Modi cast his vote, he showcased his inked finger soon after.

PM Modi urged people to cast their vote, "I appeal to everyone to cast their vote in this democracy. The election campaign will run for three to four weeks more. I always cast my vote here in Gujarat. (Union Minister) Amit Shah is contesting the election from here as a BJP candidate."

Voting in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag-Rajouri constituency was postponed after the saffron party raised concern pertaining to the weather, which was forcing the closure of a tunnel connecting the two ends of the constituency.
