'Every Woman Deserves Dignity': Kangana Ranaut On Remarks Row As NCW Seeks Report On Congress Leaders From EC

The National Commission for Women has sought an action report from the Election Commission within three days amid the row over remarks against Kangana Ranaut by Congress leaders.

The National Commission for Women has urged the Election Commission to take strict action against Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and HS Ahir amid the row over remarks against actor Kangana Ranaut, who has been fielded by the BJP to contest the Lok Sabha polls from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh. Making a fresh comment on the matter as she came for a meeting with BJP president JP Nadda in Delhi, Ranaut once again reiterated 'every woman deserves dignity' and said she would make further comments after her meeting.

The women's panel chief, Rekha Sharma, said, "It is very unfortunate that a woman is using such derogatory language against another woman... NCW has taken it very seriously. We have written to the Election Commission to take stringent action against the party and the leader. Not only one leader but two leaders are saying the same thing on Twitter and later denying that they have made such a post. They owe an apology to Kangana... They are big leaders in their party and better conduct is expected from both of them... I hope that Sonia Ji will take action against both of them... Kangana's reply is very dignified and she took a stance with dignity. A complaint has already been sent to Election Commission..."

"I hope ECI will file complaint to Police. They used derogatory language on social media which stayed for hours before Kangana saw and replied. Everybody reacted and supported Kangana. The deletion of post was an afterthought. We've written to ECI, because of the code of conduct, we'll not be able to take action directly. We'll go through ECI," she added.

This comes as derogatory remarks posted by handles of Shrinate and Ahir surfaced on social media triggering massive outrage and calls for action. Later, Shrinate distanced herself from the comments and in a clarification said, "Someone who had access to my meta accounts ( FB and Insta) posted an absolutely disgusting and objectionable post, which has been taken down. Anyone who knows me will know I would never say that for a woman. However a parody account that I have just discovered misusing my name is being run on Twitter ( @Supriyaparody ) which started the whole mischief, and is being reported.

"Everyone who knows me, also knows very well that I can never make personal and indecent comments towards any woman. I wanted to know how this happened. I came to know that my name is being misused on Twitter and a parody account is being operated, named Supriyaparody. They made this objectionable post. Someone copied it from there and posted it on my Instagram and Facebook accounts. I am trying to know who has done this from those who have access. I have also reported this parody account to Twitter..."

Reacting to the comments against her, Kangana said, all women deserved dignity. In a post aimed at Shrinated, the actor-turned-politician said, "Dear Supriya ji In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii. We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudices, we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts and above all we must refrain from using sex workers challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur… every woman deserves her dignity."
