Jharkhand Election Results LIVE Updates: Hello and welcome to ABP Live on Counting Day! Jharkhand, which went to the polls in two phases, is all set to decide the fate of its fifth assembly. For the 81-member legislative assembly, a majority mark of 42 seats is required for any party or coalition to stake claim and form the government.
The stage is set for the counting of votes in Jharkhand, where political leaders and parties anxiously await the results. The outcome will determine whether the BJP-led NDA or the JMM-led INDIA bloc will govern the state. Counting begins with postal ballots at 8 am.
In the 2019 elections, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance secured 47 seats, with JMM winning 30. The BJP, which won 37 seats in 2014, saw its tally drop to 25. Of the 28 ST-reserved seats, JMM won 19, Congress 6, BJP 2, and JVM(P) 1. For the 9 SC-reserved seats, BJP secured 6, JMM 2, and RJD 1.
This election saw a record voter turnout of 67.74%, the highest since Jharkhand’s formation on November 15, 2000. Voting took place in two phases: the first on November 13, covering 43 constituencies, and the second on November 20, for the remaining 38 seats.
Key Players And Alliances
The state witnessed a fierce contest between the ruling JMM-led INDIA bloc, aiming to retain power, and the BJP-led NDA, seeking to wrest control. Prominent candidates include Babulal Marandi (BJP) contesting from Dhanwar and Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato (JMM) from Nala.
The BJP and its allies—AJSU Party, JD(U), and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)—fielded candidates in 81 seats, with BJP contesting 68. The INDIA bloc distributed its tickets among JMM (43), Congress (30), RJD (6), and CPI(ML) (4), with some friendly contests.
The NDA campaigned aggressively on allegations of corruption and infiltration, targeting the JMM-led government and its chief minister, who is currently out on bail. Meanwhile, the ruling alliance focused on welfare promises and criticized the BJP-led Centre for "weaponising" the ED and CBI against political rivals. Chief Minister Hemant Soren accused the BJP of spending over Rs 500 crore on "malicious campaigns" against him.
Congress's Pranav Jha Alleges 'PM Modi Misused Agencies To Topple Our Govt'
After the INDIA bloc's victory in the Jharkhand elections, Congress leader Pranav Jha said: "Our (JMM-Congress alliance) campaign was a positive one and we did a wonderful job in the last five years, while PM Modi misused the agencies top topple our government. Our schemes were successful, but BJP did divisive politics and raised non-issues".
