Indore Sets NOTA Record: Over 2 Lakh Opt For 'None Of The Above' In Absence Of Congress' Candiate In Lok Sabha Election 2024

Indore Lok Sabha Election Result: Madhya Pradesh's Indore broke the record for the most number of votes given to the 'None Of The Above' (NOTA) option following Congress' appeal to select the same in the Lok Sabha 2024 Elections. The Indore constituency has so far recorded over 2 'NOTA' Vote, surpassing the previous record for the maximum number of votes given to the NOTA option. The previous record was set by the Gopalganj constituency in Bihar during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
In the 2019 General Elections, the Gopalganj Lok Sabha Set In Bihar had recorded the maximum NOTA votes, recording 51,660 votes which amounted for about 5 per cent of the total number of votes that had been polled in the entire constituency.

As per the latest data on the official website of the Election Committee of India (ECI), NOTA has received 2,11,742 votes in Indore, which happens to be the second highest after the sitting Member of Parliament from the Indore Lok Sabha Seat Bhartiya Janta Party's Shankar Lalwani who is leading with 12,12,104 votes and looks set to be the Member Of Parliament for the second successive term. There are 13 other candidates, including the Independent ones, who are contesting from the Indore Lok Sabha seat, who have all received less votes than NOTA.
Congress' Indore Candidate Had Joined BJP Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls 2024
Notably, Congress were forced to campaign for NOTA after their Indore Candidate Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew his nomination on April 29 and joined BJP. With no other major political face, it does not come as a surprise that Lalwani has maintained a healthy lead over all other rival options.
What Happens If 'NOTA' Gets Most Votes?
In case, 'NOTA' which is deemed as the 'against all' option or 'sratch' option in an election, gets the most number of votes, the candidate with the most number of votes is declared the winner.
