Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar Resigns As BJP-JJP Alliance Collapses

The decision came as BJP and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) - its alliance partner in Haryana - collapsed amid the differences in the seat-sharing talks over polls.

Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday resigned from his position. The decision came as BJP and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) - its alliance partner in Haryana - collapsed. Khattar along with his cabinet submitted their resignations to state Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.

Speaking with media, BJP leader Kanwar Pal Gujjar s,tated: "CM and cabinet ministers have resigned and the Governor has accepted the resignations."

The BJP's alliance with the JJP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, has deteriorated since they were unable to strike a seat-sharing deal in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP won all ten Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2019, while Dushyant Chautala had won Hisar in 2014. The crack between the alliance came under spotlight after JJP chief Dushyant Chautala announced that his party was fully prepared to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections solo, IANS reported.

A party leader citing Chautala, stated that the JJP coordination committee has conducted two rounds of talks on the issue of alliance. However, the point of dispute is the Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat, which are on priority for the JJP.

"Till now, the JJP has held successful rallies in six Lok Sabha seats and on March 13, the seventh Lok Sabha rally will be held in Hisar in which the public will be informed about the development works done in Hisar," Chautala told reporters.

"The BJP-JJP coalition government has been successful in the last four and a half years with the objective of providing better facilities for farmers and the common person, and we will continue to work with the same thinking in future also," he added.
