Delhi To Have Woman CM? Here's What Reports Suggest Amid Speculations Over BJP's Face For Capital

As per reports, Delhi could also possibly have a woman chief minister. The CM could be chosen from among the newly elected legislators which includes four women.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is back in Delhi after 26 years but the chief minister name is still under wraps. While many prominent leaders inlcuding Parvesh Verma and Kapil Mishra are the frontrunners, the party could choose a woman CM as well.

The party has, however, hit roadblock over picking a chief minister not only for the national capital but one more state.

Amid celebrations of a sweeping comeback in Delhi, the party suffered a blow from the northeast when Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from the post, nearly two years after ethnic violence began in the state.

The party already had the task of selecting a chief minister for Delhi in line with its trend of not disclosing the CM's face before the election. The party had a similar strategy in Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

While Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Satish Upadhyay, Mohan Singh Bisht, and Ashish Sood are among the top contenders, it won't be a surprise if the BJP top brass introduces a surprise name.

As per reports, Delhi could also possibly have a woman chief minister. As per an India Today report, the CM could be chosen from among the newly elected legislators.

Four BJP women legislators have won the recently concluded election inluding Rekha Gupta (Shalimar Bagh), Shikha Roy (Greater Kailash), Poonam Sharma (Wazirpur), and Neelam Pehalwan (Najafgarh).

However, the tougher task for the saffron party is to select a new chief minister for Manipur. The ethnic violence between tribal Kukis and majority Meiteis has marred the state for nearly two years now.

In such a scenario, picking another Meitei CM could anger the Kuki community and vice versa and bringing a candidate who does not belong to either community could irk most of the people in the state.

Following the ethnic violence that began in Manipur on May 3, 2023, the opposition has been demanding Biren Singh's resignation but the BJP resisted it. However, after Congress announced a no-confidence motion against the Biren Singh government on Monday, the CM reached the Raj Bahwan in Imphal on Sunday and tendered his resignation.

He made the move after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
