ED Gets L-G Nod To Prosecute Arvind Kejriwal, AAP Says Plot To Malign Party

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena gave a nod to the Enforcement Directorate to initiate a case against Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena gave a nod to the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday to prosecute Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case. The development comes just months ahead of Delhi elections scheduled to be held in February next year.

The Aam Aadmi Party alleged "conspiracy" by Bharatiya Janata Party to defame the AAP government and finish the party.

"Investigation into the alleged liquor policy has been going on for 2 years and now nothing has been found," sources said while speaking to ABP News, alleging that over 500 people were tortured during the investigation during the last two years of investigation.

On Friday, the Delhi High Court granted the enforcement agency more time to file its response to the petition filed by Kejriwal and another AAP leader Manish Sisodia.

Both the leaders have challenged through the petition the trial court's decision to take cognisance of the chargesheets in the Delhi liquor policy case.

The High Court said it will hear the matter on January 30 next year as the ED counsel informed Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri that additional solicitor general S V Raju, who was scheduled to make submissions on Friday, was unavailable.

The court posted the matter on January 30 at the request of Kejriwal's counsel after initially listing it for February 19, 2025.

"Here is a person whose elections are coming in January and he is waiting endlessly for the other side to argue the matter," Kejriwal's counsel said, opposing ED's request for adjournment, reported PTI.

In their petitions, Kejriwal and Sisodia have sought to set aside the trial court order arguing the trial court took cognisance of the chargesheet in the absence of sanction for their prosecution, mandated in law as they were public servants at the time of the alleged crime.

However, appearing for the ED, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that a sanction was obtained to prosecute Kejriwal and he would file an affidavit.
