BJP Makes Historic Comeback In Delhi Election, But NDA Allies May Not Be Happy
Though the BJP won 48 seats in Delhi, making a historic comeback, its allies JD(U) and LJP (Ram Vilas) failed to win the Burari and Deoli seats.

Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the election in Delhi with a landslide victory, the NDA allies suffered a setback in the Delhi Assembly Elections.
The BJP, which was contesting on 68 seats, won 48 seats in the capital, making a historic comeback after 26 years of remaining out of power. AAP, which was in power for two full-terms, lost the election, falling to 22 seats.
Though the saffron party had a success rate of over 70 per cent, two of its allies contesting the Delhi polls lost their seats.
The BJP had allocated two seats—Burari and Deoli—to its allies in this election. While the Janata Dal (United) fielded Shailendra Kumar from Burari, the LJP (Ram Vilas) nominated Deepak Tanwar from Deoli.
In the Burari seat, JD(U) candidate Shailendra Kumar lost to AAP's Sanjeev Jha by a margin of 20,601 votes. Meanwhile, Mangesh Tyagi of the Congress came third with 19,920 votes.

In Deoli, AAP candidate Prem Chauhan defeated Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate Deepak Tanwar by a margin of 36,680 votes. Congress candidate Rajesh Chauhan came third with 74,678 votes.

The two seats were Poorvanchali dominated and the BJP had allotted the two seats to its allies with the migrant votes into account. The allotment of two seats to NDA allies in Bihar comes even as the state is scheduled to go for assembly polls later this year. The JD(U) had contested two Purvanchali-dominated seats- Burari and Sangam Vihar in 2020 assembly polls.
Meanwhile, another NDA ally Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which went sono in the polls, also failed to get seat in Delhi.
The NCP had announced a list of 30 candidates for the Delhi elections, fielding candidates from the New Delhi and Kalkaji seats. The NCP has contested state elections in Delhi in the past. However, this was the first time the Ajit Pawar faction was contesting the Delhi election after the NCP split in July 2023.
As per reports, another NDA ally in Maharashtra, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, also wanted a seat, but could not make the cut.
In terms of voter percentage, the BJP emerged as the biggest party with 45 per cent of the total vote share. Nitish Kumar's JD(U) got 1.07% votes, while the LJP (Ram Vilas) got 0.53% votes and the NCP managed to get only 0.06% votes.
