Delhi CM Kejriwal Calls Himself 'Janta Ka Ladla', Says BJP Troubled By His Popularity

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has got into fierce criticism ahead of the Gujarat elections by calling BJP the most corrupt party.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated on Tuesday that he was "Janta Ka Laadla" (darling of the people) and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was worried by the attention.

Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have come under fire ahead of elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Gujarat Assembly, with BJP leaders labelling AAP "the most corrupt party," news agency PTI reported.

"Before the Punjab Assembly elections, Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) called Kejriwal a terrorist. The Home Minister (Amit Shah) ordered an investigation. What became of it? They are now accusing Kejriwal of corruption ahead of the Gujarat and MCD elections. If Kejriwal is a terrorist or corrupt, shouldn't he be arrested?" Kejriwal remarked in a Hindi tweet.

"Kejriwal is neither a terrorist nor corrupt. Kejriwal is 'janta ka laadla' (darling of the people). The BJP has a problem with him," Kejriwal tweeted.

The 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) goes to polls on December 4 while counting will take place on December 7.

On Monday, the nomination process for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections to the 250 wards commenced.

According to the Delhi Election Commission, preparations for the start of the nomination process with the notification have been completed. For the enrolling procedure in Delhi, 68 Returning Officers have been appointed. 200 Assistant ROs have also been deployed for their assistance and to facilitate the enrollment process.

The last date to file the nominations is November 14.

The BJP, which has ruled Delhi's civic bodies since 2007, is up against a resurgent Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. The BJP won 181 of the 270 wards in the 2017 city body elections. Due to the death of two candidates, no polling could be performed on those seats. The Aam Aadmi Party won 48 wards, while the Congress took 27.

Earlier this year, the Centre unified the city's three municipal corporations under the MCD and reduced the total number of wards to 250 from 272.
