Clash Erupts In Delhi's Seelampur As BJP Alleges Burqa-Clad Women Cast 'Fake' Votes

Some of the female voters claimed that someone else had already cast votes on their behalf, sparking massive uproar.

A clash erupted at a polling booth in Seelampur on election day in Delhi after the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that some burqa-clad women cast "fake" votes in the ongoing Assembly polls at a polling booth set up in Aryan Public School. Some of the female voters claimed that someone else had already cast votes on their behalf, sparking massive uproar.

Following this the Delhi Police personnel began thorough checking to ensure that bogus voting does not take place.

BJP alleged that the AAP brought in women from outside to get 'fake' voting done on the Seelampur seat. Workers from the parties began sloganeering and got into a clash after the allegations were made.

A BJP worker alleged that men and women were sent by AAP, who had disguised themselves in mask and burqas, to vote instead of actual voters. Some of the voters showed their voter ids and uninked fingers, claiming that they were told to leave and not allowed to vote as someone had already cast ballots in their names.

After the allegations of fake voting were made, Block Level Officer Seelampur, Sabina Sadiq said: "A woman voter who had come to vote was told that her vote has already been cast. At that moment, the voting was temporarily halted."

Delhi Police said a PCR call was made by one 26-year-old  resident of Usmanpur named Mohini, alleging that her vote had already been cast by someone else.

The police futher clarified that the enquiry revealed the confusion arose since there was another woman who had a similar name, Munni Devi, aged 60 years. She was an earlier tenant at the same address, which increased the confusion. After verification, the Presiding Officer allowed both women to cast vote

Voting for the 70 Assembly constituencies is underway in Delhi. According to the Election Commission, a voter turnout of 19.95 percent was recorded till 11 AM.
