Chikmagalur Election Result 2023: Congress's HD Thammaiah Leads By Margin Of Over 3,600 Votes

Chikmagalur Election Result 2023: Early Trends suggest BJP's CT Ravi lagging behind Congress's rival HD Thammaiah after several rounds of counting.

Chikmagalur Election Results 2023: Counting for the 224-member assembly in Karnataka is underway at hundreds of counting centres across the state as BJP, Congress and JDS wait for the final numbers. Meanwhile, from the hot seat of Chikmagalur Congress candidate  HD Thammaiah is leading with a margin of over 3,600 votes while BJP's CT Ravi is lagging after 11 rounds of counting.

The intense battle between rival parties BJP and Congress has left everyone eagerly awaiting the outcome, as the possibility of a hung assembly looms. The results will reveal the electoral fortunes of key leaders such as Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of the BJP, Congress heavyweights Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, and JD(S)' HD Kumaraswamy, among others.

The counting process will commence at 8 am across 36 centres throughout the state. Election officials anticipate a clearer picture of the results to emerge by mid-day. The voting on May 10 witnessed a "record" turnout of 73.19 per cent, as citizens cast their votes to elect representatives for the 224-member Assembly.

Exit polls have indicated a close competition between the Congress and BJP, causing leaders from both parties to feel anxious about the outcome. Meanwhile, the JD(S) appears to anticipate a hung verdict, which could provide an opportunity for them to play a role in government formation. The majority of pollsters have given a slight advantage to the Congress, while also acknowledging the possibility of a hung Assembly in the state.

Earlier, during the campaigning period in Karnataka, Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary CT Ravi said that his party does not want votes from those who have a “Pakistani mindset” adding some Muslims who support Pakistan and have divisive ideology vote for Congress and Janata Dal. Ravi’s remark came after senior party leader KS Eshwarappa said they did not want “even a single Muslim vote” while speaking on the issue of religious conversion.

“There are many patriots among Muslims who vote for BJP. But some of them who support Pakistan and have a divisive ideology vote for Congress and Janata Dal,” said Ravi.
