Chhattisgarh Assembly Polls: Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP over Rafale, demonetisation, chit fund scam

Talking about demonetisation, Gandhi said “People were made to stand in long queues outside ATMs during demonetisation. But not one person holding black money had to face this.”

New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi who is in Chhattisgarh to campaign ahead of run-up to the assembly polls in the state, trained guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Raman Singh, over a number of issues including demonetisation, Rafale and the state’s chit fund scam. Gandhi was addressing the first rally of his Chhattisgarh tour in Pakhanjore town of Kanker district at noon where he launched attacks on PM Modi and CM Raman Singh. Talking about demonetisation, Gandhi said “People were made to stand in long queues outside ATMs during demonetisation. But not one person holding black money had to face this.” He attacked the BJP government over alleged inaction against insolvent businessmen who have "fled the country". “Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Lalit Modi and Mehul Choksi ran away from the country with your money, “ he told people. Hitting out at CM Raman Singh, over the chit fund scam in Chhattisgarh, Rahul Gandhi said: “Rs 5000 crore of people was moved out. People invested their money in different companies, and the companies also vanished. So many people lost their lives but no enquiry or action was initiated” “These companies were started by the Chief Minister’s aides and that is why no action has been taken against them”, Gandhi alleged. Speaking on the Rafale probe, Rahul Gandhi said that PM Modi gave Rs 30,000 crore gift to his friend Ambani. He said ‘the PM bought a Rafale jet of Rs. 536 crore for rs.1,600 crore.’ Gandhi's poll address in Kanker will be followed by public meetings in Rajnandgaon district's Khairgarh and Dongargarh towns, and a road show in Rajnandgaon. The Congress chief will also chair a meeting of party workers in Jagdalpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also in the state, also addressed a public meeting in Jagdalpur. Chhattisgarh became witness to an intense political slugfest on Friday ahead of the assembly polls, as both BJP and Congress kicked off campaign for the first phase of elections. Watch:
