The Assembly polls in the five states will be held between November 7 and November 30. Mizoram will go to polls on November 7, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30 while Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 7 and November 17.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a political rally in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, making a fervent appeal to the electorate in the poll-bound state to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shah emphasised that supporting the BJP is crucial for strengthening the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his quest to elevate India to a prominent global position.
During the rally, held in the state, Amit Shah told the gathering that Madhya Pradesh had experienced a decline when the Congress was in power, characterising it as a "BIMARU" (laggard) state. In contrast, he credited the BJP's governance with ushering in development across various sectors, asserting that this had positively impacted the state, news agency PTI reported.
"I appeal to you to vote for the lotus symbol for strengthening the hands of PM Modi for the security and welfare of people and to make the country number one in the world," Shah said.
The Union Home Minister highlighted the significant moment when the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was laid, asserting that this step had been pending for decades. He remarked that “On January 22, (idol of) Lord Ram Lalla will be consecrated in the huge temple”, as quoted by PTI.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday promised that if the party comes back to power in Chhattisgarh, it will again wave loans for the farmers in the state. Addressing a public rally in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon, Rahul said that the Chhattisgarh government "is going to provide free education from KG to PG."
"I want to tell the farmers of Chhattisgarh that we had promised to waive off the farm loans last time and we fulfilled it, and this time too, we are promising that we will waive the farm loans again," he said.
"Five years ago, Congress had made 4-5 promises to the people of Chhattisgarh. We had promised the government would listen to the voice of farmers and labourers. The promises included waiving off farm loans and procuring paddy at Rs 2,500 per quintal. I want to ask you all, 'Did we fulfill all those promises," he added.
Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party led Centre, the Wayanad MP said there are two government with one working for the society while the other has been working for billionaires.
"As I said earlier, there are two types of government, one that works for farmers, poor and underprivileged ones, and the other works for billionaires. Bhupesh Baghel had said Modi Government has waived Rs 14 lakh crore of people like Adani," said the Congress leader.
Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day visit to poll-bound Chhattisgarh since Saturday. Ahead of the Sunday rally, he helped some cultivators at a village near Raipur in harvesting paddy and said the pro-farmer "model" of his party's government in Chhattisgarh will be replicated across India.
