The Shiv Sena chief had left for his native place a day after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Delhi. Other Mahayuti allies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar and Bharatiya Janata Party chief BJP Nadda were also present at the meeting. He had cancelled all the meetings in Mumbai and left for his village amidst the ongoing suspense over the CM post.
Earlier this week, Shinde had said that he would not create any obstacle in the formation of government in Maharashtra and would support any decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
"I called PM Modi yesterday and also Amit Shah and told them to decide (on who will be the CM post), and assured them that I will abide by whatever decision they take," Shinde said during a press conference in Thane.
"Our Shiv Sena will fully support the BJP’s decision to name the next Maharashtra CM. There is no speed breaker from our side," he added.
In another development, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Maharashtra government will be held on December 5 at 5 PM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. He said the ceremony will be held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP, recovering from its Lok Sabha setback, bagged 132 seats in the Assembly polls, which was the highest among all the Mahayuti allies. Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP won 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
The opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi faced a crushing defeat, with the Congress winning 16 seats, Sharad Pawar's NCP 10, and Uddhav Thackeray's UBT Sena bagging 20 seats.
