Mizoram Opinion Poll 2023: State Likely To Witness Hung Assembly? Here's What ABP-CVoter Survey Says
Mizoram ABP CVoter Opinion Poll: The electoral battleground in Mizoram appears to be poised for a closely contested battle between the ruling MNF and the Congress.
Mizoram ABP CVoter Opinion Poll: As the political landscape in Mizoram gears up for the impending assembly elections on November 7, the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll presents an insightful glimpse into the electoral dynamics of the state. Mizoram, a northeastern state with a rich history, will see its 40 assembly seats go to polls in a single-phase election. The counting of votes for all five states, including Mizoram, is scheduled for December 3, with the electoral process concluding on December 5.
Mizoram is currently governed by the Mizo National Front (MNF) under the leadership of Chief Minister Zoramthanga. Major political players in the state include the MNF, the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM).
The electoral battleground in Mizoram appears to be poised for a closely contested battle, with the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll projecting the possibility of a hung assembly as no party appears to be securing a clear majority on its own. The ruling MNF is projecting to win 13 to 17 seats, INC could win 10 to 14 seats, ZPM 9 to 13 seats, and Others 1 to 3 seats.
As for vote share percentage projections, MNF, which secured 37.7% of the vote share in the last election, is projected to receive 30.5%, signaling a swing of -7.2%. INC, with a 29.9% vote share in the previous election, is projected to receive 28.3%, a swing of -1.6%. ZPM, a rising political force with a 22.9% vote share in the last election, is anticipated to secure 27.1%, a swing of 4.2%.
Other parties, holding a 9.5% vote share in the last election, are expected to garner 14.2%, indicating a swing of 4.7%.
Mizoram's political landscape has predominantly been characterised by the Mizo National Front and the Congress since it gained statehood in 1987. However, the upcoming elections face a fresh twist with the emergence of a new political entity, the ZPM, which disrupted established calculations in a significant civic body election earlier this year.
In these upcoming elections, the ruling MNF, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, aims for a second consecutive term in office. The MNF has governed for three terms since Mizoram's inception as a state, thanks in part to the Mizo peace accord signed by then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Meanwhile, the principal rival, the Congress, has enjoyed four terms in power.
As the electoral battle unfolds, certain constituencies will be closely watched, including Aizawl East-I, where Chief Minister Zoramthanga is seeking re-election. This constituency, once a Congress stronghold, is expected to witness a fierce contest between the MNF and the Congress, with the ZPM also in contention.
