Kasaragod: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, P Karunakaran from Communist Party of India (CPM) won the elections by a margin of 6921 votes. The polling / voting in Kasaragod constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Communist Party of India (Marxist)#s KP Satishchandran and Congress Party#s Rajmohan unnithan

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Indian National Congress won 8 out of the 20 parliamentary seat with 31.1 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 5 seats with a 21.6 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 78.33% Lok Sabha percent with 77.23% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 79.34% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 6103 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Kasaragod, 11 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of P Karunakaran of the Communist Party of India as he defeated Adv. T Siddique by a margin of 6921 votes.

• 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate P. Karunakaran attained 437284 votes and INC's N A Mohammed bagged 329028 votes.
• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 31578 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader T. Govindan attained 423564 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Khader Mangad bagged 391986 votes
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 48240 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader T. Govindan attained 395910 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Khader Mangad bagged 347670 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 74730 votes CPM candidate T. Govindan had got 371997 while INC got I. Rama Rai votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and Indian National Congress here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 9423 votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and Indian National Congress here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 1546 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Communist Party of India candidate with a difference of 11369 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader I. Rama Rai attained 262904 votes and Communist Party of India candidate Balanandan bagged 251535 votes
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 73587 votes CPM candidate M. Ramanna Rai had got 263673 while JNP got O. Rajagopal votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and CPM here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his CPM counterpart with a difference of 5042 votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPM candidate with a difference of 28404 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Ramachandran Kadannappalli attained 189486 votes and CPM candidate E. K. Nayanar bagged 161082 votes
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate A. K. Gopalan attained 206480 votes and INC's T. V. C. Nair bagged 87970 votes.
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate had defeated PSP candidate by a margin of 83363 votes CPI candidate A. K. Gopalan had got 188384 while PSP got K. R. Karanth votes.
• 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India (Marxist) and IND here Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated his IND counterpart with a difference of 5145 votes.
