Hoshiarpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Vijay Sampla from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 13582 votes. The polling / voting in Hoshiarpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Som Prakash and Congress Party#s Dr. Rajkumar chabbewal

Hoshiarpur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Indian National Congress won 3 out of the 13 parliamentary seat with 33.1 percent vote share while the Shiromani Akali Dal managed to win just 4 seats with a 20.3 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 64.72% Lok Sabha percent with 62.11% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Out of the 17 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Hoshiarpur, 14 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Vijay Sampla of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Mohinder Singh Kaypee by a margin of 13582 votes.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 34206 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi attained 256211 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Kamal Chaudhry bagged 222005 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate by a margin of 65332 votes BJP candidate Kamal Chaudhury had got 304091 while BSP got Charandeep Singh Kamboj votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 10944 votes. Here, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Kanshi Ram attained 230011 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Kamal Choudhary bagged 219067 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate by a margin of 68109 votes INC candidate Kamal Chaudhary had got 176176 while BSP got Satnam Singh votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP(S) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate Zail Singh attained 223976 votes and JNP(S)'s Balbir Singh bagged 98790 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Balbir Singh attained 258731 votes and INC's Darbara Singh bagged 144114 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated SAD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Darbara Singh attained 172451 votes and SAD's Kartar Singh bagged 71616 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and BJS here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his BJS counterpart with a difference of 1511 votes.
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated REP candidate with a difference of 10301 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Amar Nath Vidya Alankar attained 128953 votes and REP candidate Ambedkar Yashwant Rao bagged 118652 votes
