Background

Dumka: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Shibu Soren from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won the elections by a margin of 39030 votes. The polling / voting in Dumka constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Sunil Soren and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha#s Shibu Soren

Dumka 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 out of the 14 parliamentary seat with 40.1 percent vote share while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha managed to win just 2 seats with a 9.3 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Dumka Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 72.41% Lok Sabha percent with 72.12% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 72.72% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 18325 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Dumka, 11 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Shibu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha as he defeated Sunil Soren by a margin of 39030 votes.

Here, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren attained 208518 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Sunil Soren bagged 189706 votes
  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JMM candidate Shibu Soren attained 339542 votes and BJP's Sone Lal Hembrom bagged 224527 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bharatiya Janta Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha here Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated his Jharkhand Mukti Morcha counterpart with a difference of 4648 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate with a difference of 12556 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Babu Lal Marandi attained 277334 votes and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate Shibu Soren bagged 264778 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Bharatiya Janta Party here Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate defeated his Bharatiya Janta Party counterpart with a difference of 5478 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JMM candidate Shibu Soren attained 260169 votes and BJP's Babulal Marandi bagged 126528 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JMM candidate Shibu Sohan attained 247502 votes and INC's Prithwi Chandkishu bagged 137901 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate by a margin of 97187 votes INC candidate Prithiwi Chand Kisku had got 199722 while JMM got Shibu Soren votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Independent and Indian National Congress here Independent candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 3513 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 53254 votes BLD candidate Bateshwar Hemram had got 115386 while INC got Prithiwichand Kisku votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPI candidate with a difference of 10084 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Satya Charan Besra attained 56888 votes and CPI candidate Satrughan Besra bagged 46804 votes
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPI candidate with a difference of 12040 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader S. C. Besra attained 60108 votes and CPI candidate B. Marandi bagged 48068 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and JP here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his JP counterpart with a difference of 1085 votes.
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, JHP candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 52116 votes JHP candidate Suresh Chandra Chudhury had got 148888 while INC got Bhagwat Jha Azad votes.
