IIT alumni Kanishak Kataria secures AIR 1 in UPSC Civil Services final exam; All you need to know about top scorers

UPSC result 2018 toppers: Kanishak Kataria, a B.Tech from IIT Bombay, has secured all India rank 1 in UPSC Civil Services final examination.

UPSC Civil Services Final Exam Results: Kanishak Kataria, a B.Tech from IIT Bombay, has secured all India rank 1 in UPSC Civil Services final examination, results of which were announced by the commission today on the official website - upsc.gov.in. Kataria is a B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering). He reportedly belongs to SC category and has qualified the examination with mathematics as his optional subject. While Kataria has topped the exams, Akshat Jain from Rajasthan and Junaid Ahmad from Uttar Pradesh have ranked second and third, respectively. Jain, an engineering graduate from IIT Guwahati, was elated after his achievement and one of the reasons why he appeared in the civil services examination was to serve the society. Hailing from Jaipur, Akshat's father is an IPS officer while mother is an Indian Revenue Service officer, who also motivated him to join the civil services. Srushti Jayant Deshmukh is the topper among women candidates. She holds an overall fifth position among 759 candidates, of which 577 men were male and 182 were female. Deshmukh is a B.E.(Chemical Engineering) from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal. While Namrata Jain from Naxal affected Dantewada in Chhattisgarh, secured all India rank 12. Interestingly, he is just 22 years old and did not take any coaching to clear the IPS exam. He is determinant to clear IAS exam as well, for which he will sit for the test again in future. Meanwhile, setting an example for others to not to lose hope, Dilip Pratap Singh cleared the exam in his third attempt and managed to secured 72nd rank. He is now qualified to become an IAS for which he gives all the credit to his mother. Besides, among the top 5 rank holders, three are from Rajasthan- Rank 1. 1133664 Kanishak Kataria Rank 2. 1104407 Akshat Jain Rank 4. 0856837 Shreyans Kumat The other nine candidates in the top 10 ranks are Akshat Jain, Junaid Ahmad, Shreyans Kumar, Srushti Jayant Deshmukh, Shubhan Gupta, Karnati Varunreddy, Vaishali Singh, Gunjan Dwivedi and Tanmay Vashistha Sharma. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the final results of the Civil Services or Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Forest Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) examinations on Friday. The top 25 candidates comprise 15 men and 10 women. Educational qualification-wise the top 25 candidates belong to subjects like Engineering; Sciences; Economics; Law; Mathematics; History; Political Science; Public administration and Commerce graduating from premier Institutions of the country such as IITs, NIT, NLU, BITS Pilani, DU, Mumbai University, Anna University, Pune University, etc. Optional subjects of the top 25 candidates in the examination ranged from Anthropology, Chemistry, Commerce & Accountancy, Geography, Law, Maths, History, Political Science & International Relations, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, and English Literature.
