The Civil Services Examination is a strictly merit-based selection process, requiring candidates to meet or exceed the cut-off marks at each stage—prelims, mains, and interview—to advance and secure a position on the final list. This rigorous approach ensures that only the most capable and deserving candidates are selected, upholding the high standards of India’s administrative services.

The personality test, carrying 275 marks, is a critical component of the UPSC selection process. It assesses candidates on key attributes such as interpersonal skills, situational judgment, and administrative aptitude. The scores from this phase, combined with those from the mains exam, determine the final merit list.
