Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration: Schools And Other Institutions To Remain Closed In These States On January 22

To mark the grand occasion of Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration and Ramlala Pran Pratishtha, several states across the country have announced public holidays on January 22.

The 'pran prathishtha' ceremony for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is approaching. In anticipation of the significant Hindu ceremony of the 'pran prathishtha' for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya scheduled for January 22, some states have declared the day a public holiday to honor and commemorate this historic event. The culminating rituals will be marked by a grand ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the attendance of various VVIPs. 

Here are the states which officially declared January 22 a public holiday.

Uttar Pradesh:

Educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh will be closed on January 22 for the Ram Mandir 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony, as directed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Additionally, liquor shops will be closed throughout the state on that day.

Madhya Pradesh:

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh has declared January 22 as a school holiday, encouraging people to celebrate the day like a festival. A dry day has also been announced, with orders to keep all types of shops, including liquor and Bhang outlets, closed.

“Keeping in view the public sentiments, we have decided that January 22 will be a dry day in the state. All types of shops including liquor, and Bhang outlets will remain closed,” Yadav wrote on X.

Goa

In Goa, the state government has officially declared a holiday for government employees and schools on January 22. This decision has been made in acknowledgment of the 'pran pratishtha' ceremony at the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya.

“There will be a public holiday only for government servants along with schools," chief minister Pramod Sawant, said during a press conference after the cabinet meeting.

Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh government has announced a holiday for all state government schools and colleges on January 22 to commemorate the consecration ceremony of the new idol at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai shared this information through social media.

“The whole world knows Siyaram. I salute you as much as I can. There will be a holiday in all government and non-government schools and colleges of Chhattisgarh on 22 January, the day of the consecration of Prabhu Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya,” he wrote.

Haryana

The Haryana government has declared the closure of schools on January 22 in view of the Ram Mandir Inauguration. Additionally, the consumption of liquor will not be permitted anywhere in the state on the day of the consecration ceremony.

Himachal Pradesh

The Himachal Pradesh government on Sunday released an official notification announcing a public holiday in Himachal Pradesh on January 22. The Himachal government in its notice directed all Departments, Offices, Corporations, Schools, Colleges, Universities accross the state to remain closed to mark the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya on Monday. 

Jharkhand

Following the move by several other states, the Jharkhand government on Sunday also announced a public holiday for its government schools on January 22. Moreover, government offices and other establishments like public sector banks shall remain closed for half a day to mark the Ayodhya Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony. 

Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Sunday announced that all educational institutions across the state shall remain cloased on January 22, to mark the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. He further said that no meat will be sold in the state till 04:00 pm on January 22, which will also be observed as a 'dry day' in the state. 

Delhi

The AAP government in Delhi has also directed Delhi schools running morning and general shifts to remsin closed on January 22, on the occassion of Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. However, Delhi schools running evening shifts will remain open. 

Maharashtra

Earlier on Friday, the Maharashtra government also announced a public holiday on January 22, as reported by news agency PTI. The state government, through an official notification, announced a public holiday on January 22, exercising powers given by the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

Puducherry

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday announced that January 22 would be a public holiday in the Union Territory in view of consecration of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya scheduled on that day. He said that all state government offices, educational institutions and undertakings would remain closed on January 22.

Tripura

The Tripura government has also declared a half-day holiday on January 22, in light of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration, news agency PTI reported on Friday, citing officials. It was reported that the state government issued a notification late on Thursday night regarding the closure of offices till 2.30 pm on January 22. 

Gujarat

All government offices in Gujarat will remain closed for half a day on January 22, PTI reported, citing officials. A notification regarding the closure of offices till 2.30 pm on January 22 was issued by the state government late on Thursday night, it was reported. 

Rajasthan

The newly elected Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma in the BJP Legislature Party meeting held at the party’s headquarters on Thursday announced a Half-day holiday in the state on January 22, news agency PTI reported. In the light of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration, the Rajasthan government also issued an order directing the closure of all slaughterhouses, meat and fish shops in the state on January 22. 

Odisha

All government offices in Odisha will also remain closed for half-day on January 22. In the light of Ram Mandir Inauguration in Ayodhya, the state government announced state government offices, as well as the revenue and magisterial courts (executive), will remain closed for half a day till 2.30 pm on January 22, 2024, news agency PTI reported citing an official notification. 

Uttarakhand 

The Uttarakhand government has said that all the government offices in the state will remain closed till 2:30 pm on January 22. All educational institutions in the state will remain closed on the day of Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya.
