UPSC 2020: Now UPSC Aspirants Demand Postponement Of Prelims Exams Due To Spike In Coronavirus Cases

Postpone UPSC 2020 Prelims: UPSC aspirants are demanding postponement of the UPSC prelims exams due to rising coronavirus cases. Many have taken to social media to express their opinions.

UPSC Prelims 2020: With rapidly increasing coronavirus cases in India, the calls against various exams are getting stronger each day. Now candidates for UPSC Prelims 2020, are demanding the postponement of the exams which are scheduled for October 4, 2020. Many of the candidates have taken to social media to express their opinion and have made appeals to the government to prioritise the health of the candidates. Most candidates have talked about the rising Covid 19 cases as the reason for their apprehension. According to a report by India TV, aspirants have cited several reasons such as floods in different parts of the country, the risk to elderly family members, and limited exams centres that make it difficult for them to appear for the exams this year. Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava also has raised his voice in support of the demands for postponement of exams. He has even written a letter to the UPSC  Chairman, seeking postponement of the upcoming Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam as the coronavirus situation in Indian worsens. Srivastava has shared the letter on his Twitter page. Recently, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition by students seeking postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE). The government later clarified that there will be no further delay in the exams which are scheduled to begin in September. Similarly, students have also filed pleas against the UGC guidelines issued on July 6 which made it mandatory for Universities to conduct final year exams by September 30. The court is yet to provide a final verdict. While academic bodies and testing agencies that are responsible for conducting the exams have maintained that all safety measures will be adhered at the exams centres, there have been reports of students becoming Covid 19 positive after appearing for exams such as two students in Karnataka who were found coronavirus positive after giving his SSLC or class 10 Board exams in June. Last month, two students from Kerala who had appeared for an entrance exams also became coronavirus positive.
