Patna Civil Court Asks Sanjeev Mukhiya, 'Kingpin' Of NEET Paper Leak Case, To Seek Bail from CBI Court

NEET Paper Leak Case: Uday Shankar Singh, lawyer representing Sanjeev Mukhiya, filed for anticipatory bail in the court of the Additional District Judge.

Patna: As the CBI started its investigation into the NEET question paper leak case on Monday, 13 arrested individuals applied for bail, while the main accused, Sanjeev Mukhiya, who is currently absconding, filed for anticipatory bail in Patna's civil court on Tuesday. However, the court told them to file their bail applications in the Special CBI Court, given that the case is now under the jurisdiction of the central agency, as reported by news agency IANS.

Uday Shankar Singh, the Public Prosecutor and lawyer representing Sanjeev Mukhiya, filed for anticipatory bail in the court of the Additional District Judge (ADJ)-5, Rajendra Kumar Sinha.

“The hearing for the bail of 13 accused and the anticipatory bail plea of the main accused Sanjeev Mukhiya will be held in the Special CBI Court on July 15. We will submit the case transfer order letter in the CBI Court today,” Singh said on Tuesday.

The NEET examination took place on May 5, and the Patna Police uncovered the case on the same day. They arrested 13 individuals, including six associated with the education mafia, four candidates, and three parents. An FIR (Number 358/24) was registered at the Shastri Nagar Police Station in Patna in connection with this incident.

The case was subsequently transferred to Bihar's Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on May 15, and on Sunday, the EOU arrested six more accused from Deoghar in Jharkhand.

Following a recommendation from the Union Education Minister, the case was handed over to the CBI on Sunday.

A senior official at EOU said that the case had been transferred to the CBI along with all credible evidence gathered during the investigation. The evidence strongly suggests the involvement of an individual associated with the NTA who had access to confidential information. It is now up to the apex investigation agency to proceed with the case.
