Upper Age Limit For Those Appearing In NEET UG Exam Removed

Undergraduate Medical Education Board, the National Medical Commission (NMC), has removed the upper age limit for those appearing in NEET Undergraduate 2022 exam.

New Delhi: Undergraduate Medical Education Board, the National Medical Commission (NMC), has removed the upper age limit for those appearing in NEET Undergraduate 2022 exam.

In a letter dated March 9, Dr Pulkesh Kumar, Secretary, NMC, said he would like to inform that it has been decided in the fourth NMC meeting held on October 21, 2021, that there should not be any fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG examination. The letter was addressed to Dr Devvrat, Office of Senior Director, National Testing Agency.

Dr Manish, President, Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA), said that the upper age limit was 25 years and it has now been removed, news agency ANI reported. "It is a welcome step and I thank NMC. There is already a shortage of doctors in country, with this step more and more people will get an opportunity to pursue MBBS. Our country can then have more doctors," ANI quoted Dr Manish as saying.

In 2017, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made 25 years the upper age limit for unreserved candidates, and 30 years for reserved candidates.

The CBSE, in the notification, had stated that the “upper age  limit for NEET-UG is 25 years as on the date of examination with relaxation of five years for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category".

"I would like to inform that it has been decided in the 4th NMC meeting held on 21st Oct, 2021 that there should not be any fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG examination. Therefore, the information bulletin may be modified accordingly,” the communication sent by Dr Pulkesh Kumar to Dr Devvrat on March 9 said.

“Further, the process for official notification to suitably amend the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 to this effect has been initiated," the communication stated.

According to a PTI report, an official said that with the age limit criteria removed, aspirants can now appear in the medical entrance exam as many times and even after taking admission to other courses. Also, people who seek admission in foreign countries will be benefitted by the move.
