NEET UG 2024: Congress To Hold Nationwide Protests On June 21 Over 'Irregularities' In Medical Entrance Exam

There is an urgent need to address the numerous complaints and concerns surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 conduct and results, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said.

Congress will hold protests in all states on June 21 over alleged irregularities in NEET UG exam. General Secretary KC Venugopal has called for protests in all state headquarters on June 21 to address the numerous complaints and concerns regarding the conduct and results of NEET-UG 2024. In a letter to state unit chiefs, Congress legislature party leaders, state in-charges, general secretaries, and other top officials, Venugopal said that there is an urgent need to address numerous complaints and concerns of the students.

"There is an urgent need to address the numerous complaints and concerns surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 conduct and results”. “As you are aware, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the results of NEET-UG 2024 on 4th June 2024. The results have been marred by allegations of irregularities and paper leaks following the inflated marks of some aspirants,” KC Venugopal said in a letter.

The letter also said “there are significant concerns over inflated marks and irregularities, and awarding grace marks without disclosing the methodology further raises doubts”.

“The examination has been plagued by technical glitches, malpractice, and unfair means in certain test centres. Organised corruption is evident from arrests made in Bihar, Gujarat, and Haryana, revealing a pattern of malpractice in BJP-ruled states,” said the letter.

"The Hon’ble Supreme Court has also highlighted the seriousness of these allegations, demanding zero tolerance for negligence. Such irregularities undermine the credibility of the examination process and jeopardize the future of countless dedicated students. The Congress party had promised to secure the future of the youth by enforcing strict laws against paper leaks in our manifesto," while seeking a detailed report on the protests from the party state units," Venugopal said while seeking a detailed report on the protests from the party state units.

“Against this massive corruption and irregularities in the NEET Examination and the desperate inaction and silence of the NDA Government, all Pradesh Congress Committees are requested to hold massive protests at state headquarters on Friday, 21 June 2024, demanding justice for the students. This demonstration should involve senior leaders and party functionaries,” K C Venugopal added.

Meanwhile, for the second day, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) continued its protest against the alleged NEET paper leak. The party alleged, "Students were charged Rs 30 to 50 lakh to access the NEET exam paper. In Godhra, Gujarat, students were instructed to leave their OMR sheets blank, which were later filled by teachers."

"The central government is aware of this entire issue and is allegedly attempting to conceal this scam," the party added. The party has demanded a thorough investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

The NEET results, initially scheduled for June 14, were unexpectedly announced on June 4 due to expedited answer sheet evaluations. Allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar and other irregularities have marred the prestigious NEET exam. These accusations sparked protests in multiple cities and prompted petitions in various high courts, including the Supreme Court.

Notably, 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, a first in NTA's history, with six from a Faridabad centre, raising concerns about potential irregularities. The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the NTA, is crucial for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other courses in both government and private institutions nationwide.
