NSUI Members Detained During Protest Over NEET, UGC NET Paper Leak Outside Education Minister's Residence

Several members of the NSUI detained while protesting outside Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's residence in New Delhi over NEET and CUET issues.

Members of the National Students Union of India, NSUI, protested outside Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s residence in Delhi on Thursday. NSUI members have been protesting over alleged irregularities in the NEET and UGC NET examinations. Several NSUI members were detained on Thursday while protesting outside Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's residence. They were demonstrating against the sudden cancellation of the UGC NET 2024 examination.

One protester, standing on top of a car outside Mr. Pradhan’s house, called for the minister to "return the money taken from coaching institutes" and ensure justice for the students. NSUI members, led by its national president Varun Choudhary, gathered outside Pradhan’s residence and demanded a ban on the National Testing Agency (NTA) and a probe into the alleged incidents of paper leaks.

During the protest, student leaders chanted slogans accusing the NTA of corruption and criticized the education minister for not taking proper action. In a symbolic gesture, Choudhary threw a bag of fake currency into the air to highlight their claims of corruption.

Late Wednesday night, the Union education ministry canceled the UGC NET 2024 examination due to concerns about the exam's integrity being compromised. This led to outrage among students. NSUI members demanded that the National Testing Agency (NTA) be banned and called for an investigation into allegations of paper leaks.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Education said, "The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC NET June 2024 Examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode on 18th June 2024, in two shifts across different cities of the country. On 19th June 2024, the UGC received certain inputs from the I4C under the Ministry of Home Affairs. These inputs prima facie indicate that the integrity of the aforementioned examination may have been compromised."

"To ensure fairness and transparency, the Ministry has canceled the UGC-NET June 2024 exam. A new exam date will be announced later. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will also investigate the matter thoroughly," the Education Minister added.
