‘Don’t Punish Students Wearing Rakhi, Tilak Or Mehendi During Raksha Bandhan’: NCPCR Asks Schools
The festival of Raksha Bandhan will be widely celebrated tomorrow, August 31, across the country. The festivities of Rakhi have already begun today.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked schools to not punish students for wearing rakhi, tilak, or mehendi during the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The move from the NCPCR comes as the nation braces for the festival of Raksha Bandhan that commemorates the love between siblings. Although the festival of Raksha Bandhan will be pronouncedly celebrated tomorrow, August 31, 2023, the festivities have already begun across the country.
Earlier in the morning today, August 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan with school girls who visited the PM’s residence and tied rakhi on his wrist. The festivities also started ringing for the border areas where several school girls in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur tied Rakhi to CRPF Jawans. Similarly, under a campaign named ‘Thanks Jawan,’ several women in Jammu and Kashmir’s Boniyar in the Baramulla district made rakhis for the soldiers of the armed forces.
Notably, the festival of Rakhsa Bandhan will be celebrated from the night of August 30, this year, unlike last year. However, in different regions of the country, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on August 30 and August 31 as well. Even bank holidays for Raksha Bandhan this year see a split based on different regions. While in some parts of the country, bank holidays Are on August 30, and in some, banks will remain closed for Raksha Bandhan on August 31, 2023.
