Maharashtra Govt To Reopen Schools In Rural, Urban Areas From Dec 1 – All You Need To Know

Maharashtra government has decided to reopen schools for Standard 1-4 in rural areas and standard 1-7 in urban areas from December 1.

Mumbai: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government has decided to reopen schools in the state from December 1.

While making the announcement, Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said that the state government has decided to re-open schools for Standard 1-4 in rural areas and standard 1-7 in urban areas from December 1.

"After discussing with CM, cabinet and paediatric task force, state cabinet has decided to re-open schools from Std 1-4 in rural areas and Std 1-7 in urban areas from 1st Dec. We're committed to safe resumption of schools," Gaikwad said.

The decision comes a day after Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the Covid-19 task force for children has approved the reopening of the school for students of classes 1-4.

He, however, pointed out that strict protocols will have to be followed by administration while reopening the schools.

Post the approval by Covid-19 task force for children, the matter of reopening schools was taken up by Maharashtra cabinet and Ministry of Education.

While allowing the reopening of schools, the Covid task force also stressed on the need of vaccinating children between the age of 12-18 as soon as the inoculation drive begins.
