SSC CGL Age Cut-Off: Many Rendered Ineligible After Sudden Change In Date, Await Commission Response

According to a notification, candidates between the age bracket of 18 and 32 will be able to apply and the age limit will be calculated as on August 1, 2023, instead of January 1, 2023.

A significant number of candidates who have applied for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) CGL 2023 exam have been requesting a modification to the age cut-off date. According to a notification released earlier, candidates between the age bracket of 18 and 32 will be able to apply and the age limit will be calculated as on August 1, 2023, instead of January 1, 2023.

SSC aspirants, who have been staging protests outside the CGO Complex from Tuesday, wrote to Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, who is also the Minister In-charge DoPT, requesting the change in age cut-off date from August 1 to January 1, 2023. The letter was submitted to the DoPT office today.

SSC CGL Age Cut-Off: Many Rendered Ineligible After Sudden Change In Date, Await Commission ResponseLetter to Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh submitted by aspirants in DoPT.

According to the notification, candidates who are in their final year of graduation may apply for the exam, but they must possess the essential qualifications on or before the cut-off date.

Notably, last year, the age limit for the exam was calculated as of January 1, 2023. However, due to the sudden change in the cut-off date this year, a significant number of aspirants will not be eligible for the exam.

According to aspirants, in previous years, the cut-off date for age calculation was set as January 1. For the Phase-XI/2023/Selection Posts exam, the cut-off date is January 1, 2023, scheduled to take place before the CGLE 2023 Tier-1 exam. It is to be noted that in the previous years, SSC has consistently set the cut-off date as January 1, even if the notice was released in the first half of the year.

"As a candidate born between January and August, I am deeply disappointed with the SSC's decision to fix the cut-off date for the CGLE 2023 as August 1, 2023. This decision will be detrimental to our prospects, and we appeal to the authorities to change the date to January 1, 2023," an aspirant Deepak Shrivastava told ABP Live.

Requesting the commission to change the cut-off date, Puja Pandey said, "An arbitrary age reckoning date can have a significant impact on a candidate's career prospects. We request SSC to change the age reckoning date to 1st Jan 2023 and ensure a level playing field for all candidates.''

Another aspirant Garima Sehgal said, "SSC just released the notification of SSC CGLE 2023 and changed the age cut-off date to August 01, 2023. What about the people who were born between January and August?"

No Response From Commission

According to several aspirants, the Staff Selection Commission hasn't responded to their demand. ABP LIVE approached SSC officials for a comment, but they did not respond. This report will be updated if a response is received.
