Over 1,300 Posts Vacant In IAS, Over 700 In IPS: Govt Informs Rajya Sabha

1,042 posts are lying vacant in the Indian Forest Services (IFS) whereas 301 vacancies are there in Indian Revenue Service (IRS), said the Union minister in a written reply.

Union minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Thursday informed the Rajya Sabha that there are 1,365 vacancies in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and 703 in the Indian Police Service (IPS). Apart from this, 1,042 posts are lying vacant in the Indian Forest Services (IFS) whereas 301 vacancies are there in Indian Revenue Service (IRS), said the Union minister in a written reply, adding it is the endeavour of the central government to fill up these vacancies expeditiously. 

"Occurrence and filling up of vacancies is a continuous process. It is the endeavour of the central government to fill up vacant posts expeditiously," he said, reported PTI. 

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for filling up the vacancies on direct recruitment basis in civil services, including IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS, every year, he said. 

"To fill up vacancies in IAS and IPS promotion quota, selection committee meetings are held by the Union Public Service Commission with state governments," the minister said, as per the report.

He informed the Upper House of the Parliament that the Centre has increased the annual intake of IAS officers to 180 through the CSE till CSE-2022. 

"Intake of IPS through the CSE has been increased to 200 from CSE-2020. Intake of IFS has been increased to 150 in 2022. The Department of Revenue has reported 301 vacancies for filling through CSE-2023," he added.

This year, 933 candidates who appeared for the UPSC CSE 2022 qualified the exam with 178 candidates in the reserve list. 89 candidates were from general category, 28 from the EWS category, 52 from the OBC category, and 5 each from the SC and ST categories, respectively. Ishita Kishore has secured the top position while Garima Lohia and Uma Harithi N obtained the second and third ranks.
