JNU To Patent Its ‘Logo,’ And Add ‘Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya’ Motto

The decision to revise the JNU logo and add the Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya motto was unanimously passed in a meeting of the Executive Council meeting of the varsity.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi (JNU Delhi) has decided to add "Tamso ma Jyotirgamaya" motto into its logo, and will also register its logo for patenting. The decision to revise the old unregistered logo of the university was unanimously passed in a meeting of the Executive Council, Vice-Chancellor Santishree Pandit told PTI. The meeting was held on November 24, 2023.

"We are not making any changes. The old logo was not registered. We are registering the same logo with our motto, (it was) passed unanimously by the Executive Council," she was quoted as saying by PTI.

In the meantime, pushing on to the renovation works across the campus, the varsity has taken up roof waterproofing of several hostels that were grappling with leakage issues. "Repair and renovation work is underway at several hostels, the academic building and staff quarters and tenders have been floated for the same," Jawaharlal Nehru University Registrar Ravikesh was reported as saying.

“Roofwater proofing is being done in several hostels," Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association President DK Lobiyal was quoted as saying. Notably, earlier in 2022, the University Grants Commission (UGC) allocated a sum of Rs 28 crore to the Jawaharlal Nehru University for various renovation projects across the campus including work on structural repair and renovation of academic buildings, hostels and staff quarters. The Central Public Works Department was tasked with the renovation and repair works at the JNU campus.

JNU students had been long demanding to revamp the infrastructure of the varsity with repair and renovation work across the campus. A proposal was sent to the UGC in September 2021, requesting it to approve an amount of Rs 56 crores for the renovation, as per a Times of India report. Later in June 2022, a sum of Rs 28 crore was allotted for the renovation and structural repairing of various buildings inside the JNU premises.
