'After Crushing Defeat Kejriwal Wants To Tune Into Mann Ki Baat': IIT Kanpur Clarifies Viral Exam Question

IIT Kanpur clarified a viral exam question referring to former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal seeking to tune intto PM Modi's "Mann Ki Baat" after "crushing defeat."

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur on Saturday issued a clarification over a question asked in exam that has gone viral on social media. The Department of Electrical Engineering asked a question in exam referring former Delhi chief minister and IIT alumnus Arvind Kejriwal, who, after losing the recent Delhi Assembly elections, wants to tune into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s "Mann Ki Baat" on Vividh Bharti FM (105.4 MHz).

Later, the institute offered a clarification stating the question was designed to make learning more interactive for students.

In a statement, the university said that the instructor behind the question frequently employs references to famous individuals, fictional or real, with a motive to spice up exams, reported India Today.

Previously, references to fictional characters such as Tony Stark, famously known as Iron Man were involved to make the questions more engaging and interesting for the students.

The university further confirmed there is no implied meaning or implications in the question. The purpose was academic, to enable students to connect with ideas in a more interesting manner.

"This is a common practice employed by many teachers to keep students interested. The mention of the reference in the question was intended to make the topic more relevant," the statement said.

However, the question has drawn mixed reactions on social media. While some netizens appreciated the reference as being created and entertaining, others wondered if real-life personalities belong in the classroom.

The university said it has ensured that there was no controversy or malice behind the question and that it was consistent with the teaching style of the faculty member. Additionally, the administration said it will assess the feedback and make sure that future exam material maintains a professional and balanced approach.
