Over 3,900 Teaching Posts Vacant In Delhi University: MoS Education In Rajya Sabha

Delhi University Vacant Teacher Posts: More than 3900 posts of teachers are vacant in Delhi University, said Subhash Sarkar, Minister of State for Education in the Rajya Sabha.

The issue of multiple vacant posts of teachers in Delhi University has been raised many times. The matter became a little more clear when Minister of State for Education, Subhash Sarkar himself said in Parliament that about 3900 posts of teachers are vacant in DU.

Replying to a question, the State Education Minister told the Rajya Sabha that more than 3900 posts of teachers are vacant in Delhi University. While about 3000 teachers in these posts are working on an ad-hoc basis.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Education, Subhash Sarkar in parliament in response to a written question. Broadly speaking, 50.85 percent of teaching posts and about 68 percent of non-teaching posts are currently vacant in Delhi University.

This is what the Minister said :

State Education Minister Subhash Sarkar said in his statement, 'A total of 3,959 teaching posts are vacant and 3,047 teachers are currently working on an ad-hoc basis in vacant posts in all the constituent colleges of Delhi University.' If we look at the number of vacant posts in different colleges, then it is as follows.

Kashish Shivani, a BA student from Gargi College said, "We were not alloted one particular teacher for Economics, rather, four teachers collectively taught the same subject in the first year, while the same subject is being taught by two teachers in the second year," to ABP Live. 

Gargi College has the highest number of vacant teacher posts at 216, followed by Janki Devi Memorial College with 169 posts, Ramjas College with 143 posts, Deshbandhu College with 132 posts, and Sri Venkateswara College 131 vacancies. No information has yet been given about when these posts will be filled up and whether ad-hoc teachers will be made permanent.
