MCD, Delhi Schools To Resume Physical Classes From January 15, To Operate Between 9 AM To 5 PM

Delhi schools have been strictly directed to not operate before 09:00 am, or after 05:00 pm, as a precautionary move, considering the prevailing cold weather conditions.

All Delhi schools, will resume classes in the physical learning mode for all classes including Nursery, KG and Primary classes, from January 15, 2024, Monday. Through an official order, the Directorate of Education, Delhi (DoE Delhi) instructed all schools in the national capital to resume physical classes from January 15. However, as a precautionary move, the DoE has directed schools to make sure that they don’t operate classes before 09:00 am, or after 05:00 pm.

“In continuation of Order no. PS/DE/2024/14 dated 07/01/2024, it is directed that all students of Government, Government Aided and Recognised Private Schools shall join back classes in physical mode at their respective schools with effect from 15/01/2024(Monday). This includes Nursery, KG and Primary classes as well,” the order reads. “However, taking precaution in view of the prevailing foggy conditions, no school(including double shift schools) will start before 9 a.m. and have classes beyond 5 pm till further directions,” it adds further.

In a similar move, the Education Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also directed all MCD schools to reopen from tomorrow, January 15, 2024, for physical classes for all classes including Nursery, KG and Primary classes. The MCD released an official order today, announcing the reopening of MCD Schools.

“It is directed, that all MCD/MCD-Aided/MCD-Recognized Schools shall resume w.e.f. 15.01.2024 for all classes i.e. Nursery, KG and Primary classes. However, taking precaution in view of the prevailing foggy conditions, Schools shall function w.e.f 15.01.2024 to 20.01.2024, as per the following schedule; General Shift: 9 AM to 1 PM, Morning Shift: 9 AM to 12:30 PM, Evening Shift: 1 PM to 5 PM" reads the official MCD order.

Notably, earlier last week on January 7, Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced the closure of Delhi Schools for classes nursery to 5 for another week, starting from January 8 to 12, 2024, eventually leading up to the reopening of schools on January 15, followed by Saturday and Sunday on January 13 and 14. The extension of the closure of Delhi schools was announced considering the cold wave and dense fog across Delhi-NCR.

Amid the cold wave, the national capital on Sunday woke up to a dense fog covering the region, reducing the visibility to zero, news agency ANI reported. The minimum temperature recorded in the RK Puram area was 7 degrees Celsius. The dense fog along with the high levels of pollution, have further hampered visibility in the national capital region. The air quality amid this chilly morning was recorded in the 'Severe' category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 478 in the Anand Vihar area, 465 at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium area at 465, 465 at IGI Airport (T3) area, and 455 in ITO Delhi at 455.
