Delhi Schools Reopen For Classes 9 And 11; Check Covid Protocols, Examination Guidelines Here

Students will attend schools only with consent of parents and physical attendance is not compulsory, while schools will follow all Covid-19 guidelines.

Delhi Schools: After almost a gap of one year, schools in the national capital will open their doors to children on Friday for classes to resume for 9th and 11th, Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia had announced previously. However, in the first phase of the schools reopening in Delhi, schools for classes 10, 12 were resumed on January 18 to help students prepare for the upcoming CBSE board exams. The order also mentioned resuming classes at colleges offering degree and diploma courses. Also Read: IIT Bombay GATE 2021: Exam Starts From Feb 6; Check Exam Day Guidelines & Dress Code Here

Students in the national capital didn’t attend classes since March 2020 due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country followed by the nationwide lockdown. The schools across the country have started reopening in October last year. Even though it will not be possible to compensate for the loss because of the pandemic, resuming classes is aimed at helping students prepare better for their practical and internal assessments.

What should you keep in mind?

Education institutes have to strictly follow Covid-19 protocols once students resume their classes. They will have to ensure that students, teachers maintain social distancing inside campuses and wear face masks. So, remember to wear maskS on the premises while attending physical classes. While several states had partially reopened schools after October, this will be the first time in 10 months that students in the national capital will be attending physical classes.

Students will be provided sanitizers by schools and colleges, and most importantly students attending physical classes will be subject to written consent from their parents.  Sisodia said, "We will not call all the students at once. We will only call the students with the prior permission of their parents."

It is also to be noted that attendance will not be mandatory after the classes resume as per the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

"It is important to guide and counsel the students so that they are better prepared for the exams… our primary focus is to reopen the schools and ensure safety for every child. All the concerned authorities are directed to ensure safety in school premises," Sisodia had said.

He added that proper preparedness after schools reopening for classes 10, 12 had reassured parents of their children's safety, and 80% of the total number of students allowed to attend school at one time were reported to be coming for classes in both private and government schools.

Students of Class 9, 11 will soon get tentative dates for the exams and projects.

The CBSE has released a datasheet of board exams 2021 for students of classes 10 and 12 which will commence from May 4.

What are examination guidelines?

Directorate of Education (DOE) issued examination instructions for classes 9 and 11. For Class 11 practicals, projects and internal assessments would be conducted at the school level from March 1, as per report in Mint.  "It is advised to the schools that they may conduct these assessments before the commencement of annual examinations. Mid-term examinations may be conducted from March 20 to April 15, tentatively from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm in all the schools," the DOE said.

"Assessment of internal grades should also be done prior to the commencement of annual examinations. Question papers for annual examinations will be set up covering all the reduced syllabus which is uploaded on DOE's website," it added.

For Class 9, the DOE said schools may conduct the first and second periodic assessments preferably in the fourth week of February and the third week of March respectively following standard Covid protocol. "Midterm examinations may be conducted from April 1 to April 15, 2021, tentatively from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm in all the schools. Projects and assignments which were given to the students as holiday homework or home assignments during the winter vacations will be considered as 'Subject Enrichment Activities," the instructions noted.
