The new East Delhi Campus of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has been inaugurated today, June 8, 2023. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena were both present at the inauguration ceremony, and the duo jointly inaugurated the campus. Importantly, amidst the inaugration ceremony, the crowd was also heard saying 'Modi' chants in the background. Earlier today, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal reached the newly built GGSIPU East Delhi Campus, followed by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. 

Amidst the new varsity campus inaugration ceremony, some tensions between CM Kejriwal's and LG V K Saxena's supporters were also reported. Notably, in the past few days, there had been some strong rift between the two sides as to who will iaugrate the new campus: CM Kejriwal or LG V K Saxena? Both the sides had been strongly insisting on inaugurating the new campus. Adding up to the trouble, both the sides have also reportedly acccused each other of taking undue credit for the new campus. 

While Delhi Education Minister earlier said in a press conference that CM Arvind Kejriwal will inaugurfate the campus, the invitation letter for the universoty stated that LG V K Saxena will inaugurate the campus at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 8, 2023, as per a PTI report.

“I am delighted to announce that the inauguration of the east Delhi campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) is going to take place, and the chief minister will inaugurate it on June 8,” Atishi was quoted as saying by news agency PTI earlier this week. 

However, the LG Office hit back at Atishi, expressing shoch over the edu minister's statement. “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself was aware of the fact that the L-G was scheduled to inaugurate the campus. In fact, they were also aware that they were supposed to be present in the function as Guest of Honour and distinguished guest, as desired by the L-G and had also consented to it,” the statement was reported as saying.
