DCW Recommends Delhi Police, DU And IP College To File Action Report By April 18 Over Sexual Harassment Case

Delhi Commission for Women has issued recommendations to Delhi Police, DU, and IP College to submit an action report by April 18 over the sexual harassment case.

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued recommendations to the Delhi Police, Delhi University, and Indraprastha College For Women in response to reported incidents of sexual harassment during the college's annual festival, where men allegedly climbed over the college's boundary wall. The Commission has requested that the police, DU, and the college provide a report detailing the steps taken in response to the incident by April 18. The DCW has criticized the Delhi Police for their alleged sluggishness in investigating the incident that took place on March 28, when, men reportedly entered Indraprastha College during a festival and allegedly sexually harassed female attendees.

According to the DCW, the Delhi Police have yet to retrieve CCTV footage from the college, even ten days after the incident. The police have reportedly collected only partial footage from the college as of April 8, as per the women's body. The DCW has urged the Delhi Police to quickly obtain and review the entire footage of the event, so as to have a complete understanding of the incident.

The DCW expressed disappointment that the Delhi Police released all five suspects they had apprehended on the same day. The women's body has called on the police to take measures to identify all those involved in the incident and apprehend them as soon as possible.

The DCW has also expressed discontent with the Delhi Police for not taking statements from the survivors of the alleged harassment. As per the officials, only two of the accused have had their statements recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The incident in question involved "unknown" men who allegedly trespassed and harassed women students during the annual 'Shruti' festival at the Indraprastha College for Women.

The survivors claimed that the men climbed over the college boundary and harassed several women students during the festival. The DU has formed a committee to look into the students' complaints and asked for a report to be submitted in a week.

The police have registered an FIR under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 337 and 188.

In protest against the alleged harassment, several Delhi University students held a rally at the north campus and demanded justice for the victims. The rally, led by the All India Students Association (AISA), demanded the resignation of the IPCW principal Poonam Kumria, criticizing the allegedly "apathetic" IPCW and DU administrations that "colluded to repress the movement of women students instead of taking immediate action in the matter.
