New Delhi: Amid the economic slowdown that has hit several companies across various sectors with many cutting down workforce, Coal India Limited or CIL is set to announce massive recruitment drive and is likely to hire at least 9000 people. As per the report by the Economic Times, what could be termed as biggest recruitment drive by the state-run miner and its subsidiaries in a decade, CIL is expected to hire 9,000 people, of which 4,000 will be picked in executive cadre to fill up vacancies.
A senior Coal India executive was quoted by ET as saying that of the 4,000 executives that Coal India is planning to recruit, 900 would be through advertisements and interview-based in the junior category, another 400 would be recruited from campuses and some 100 would be miscellaneous like medical officers, etc. He also said that the company has already recruited 400 executives and most of them are doctors. Another 75 have been recruited and would be joining soon, he added. The company will recruit around 2,200 additional executives through competitive examinations, the executive said.
On the other hand, CIL's seven coal-producing subsidiaries will recruit 5,000 workers and technical staff. Around 2,300 will be recruited as part of the company’s policy to offer jobs to the families of people whose land was taken up for setting up projects, ET reported. While it also mentioned that some 2,350 will be hired as part of the company’s policy to offer a job to a family member of a staff who died before retirement. Besides, around 400 people would be hired in non-technical posts.
The world’s largest coal producer, Coal India, was set up in 1975. It is also India’s biggest public-sector employer after the Indian Railways with a staff strength of around 280,000.
