The choice of courses and career options after class 12th for Arts students are plentiful. Choosing the right subjects is crucial after class 10th as it paves way for the choice of courses after class 12th.
Career Guidance: Arts or Humanities is no more considered as the choice of subject of the back benchers. Students with an eye on pursuing a career in teaching, law, journalism, fashion designing, interior designing, mass communication, hotel management or civil services pick Arts stream after class 10th. The choice of courses and career options after class 12th for Arts students are plentiful. Choosing the right subjects is crucial after class 10th as it paves way for the choice of courses after class 12th.
Civil Services: Civil Services aspirants often choose Humanities as subjects like Political Science, Economics, etc help them prepare well for the competitive exam and are highly scoreable. Law aspirants too can pick Arts and pursue Bachelor of Arts (BA) before the LLB, or enrol into BA LLB Integrated course.
Teaching: Students who aspire to be teachers, Bachelor of Arts, followed by B.Ed or D.El.Ed programmes is the right path to become a teacher. Doing a Masters in your choice of subject further ups your ante in the teaching profession. Qualifying UGC NET or State NETs can fetch you Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and make you eligible for Assistant Professor roles.
Fashion designing: Students who are creative and have a flair for fashion can go for B.Des in Fashion Design or choose from various programs viz Fashion Marketing and Management, Diploma in Fashion Design, etc. There are many verticals in Fashion designing that promise a progressive career as a fashion designer, merchandiser, store coordinator and so on.
Interior designing: Interior designing is another field that Arts students can opt for. The person has to be creative and an avid problem solver; an interest in upgrading the looks of space or furniture is what makes for a great interior designer. B.Sc (Design – Interior and Furniture) as well as B.Des (Interior and Furniture) is offered by many varsities in India for students aspiring to become an Interior Designer.
Fine Arts: BFA aka Bachelor of Fine Arts is the right choice for those who inherit a talent in Visual Arts like painting, sculpture, literature, photography, animation, etc, or in Performing Arts like music, dance, acting, theatre, etc.
Tourism and Hospitality: Courses like B.Sc (Hotel Management), BBA (Tourism and Hospitality), BHMCT, B.Sc (Airlines, Tourism and, Hospitality) present a surfeit of opportunities for students who wish to make a career in the hospitality and tourism sector. A course in Event Management too has good career prospects in these times.
Media and Journalism: Journalism as well as Film and TV production are creatively gratifying options for Arts students. Candidates with a flair for writing and a good command over language can opt for B.A. in Journalism or Mass Comm, while those who like to be behind the camera can enrol for B.Sc (Film and TV production). The jobs that follow these courses could be hectic however creatively satisfying.
Management: Arts students can enrol in BBA or other management programs if they intend to pursue MBA in due course of time. There’s no dearth of management careers for students of Humanities, just the right mix of confidence, aptitude and communication skills is required to pursue management roles.
