Relief From Searing Heat Continues As Rain Lashes Parts Of Delhi-NCR, IMD Predicts Thundershowers
Residents of Delhi-NCR witness continuing relief from scorching heat as rain lashes parts of the city and its adjoining areas on Tuesday. The weatherman has predicted more showers.
Parts of areas in Delhi-NCR continued to receive rainfall for the second day in a row giving a breather to the residents from the sizzling heatwave. The city witnessed high-intensity thundershowers on Monday afternoon also. Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted more rain for today. According to a TOI report, on Monday, base station Safdarjung recorded 4.4mm of rain between 8.30am and 5.30pm and 4.5mm before 8.30am. The national capital saw widespread rainfall, with Pitampura recording 8mm, Ridge 6.2mm, Mungeshpur at 5.5mm, Lodhi Road 5.4mm and Mayur Vihar 4.5mm. The city recorded a minimum temperatuire o 27 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the weather department on Tuesday said that thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of Rewari, Bawal (Haryana) Bhiwari (Rajasthan). It added that light-intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi ( Lajpat Nagar, Malviya nagar, Kalkaji, Mahrauli, Tughlakabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, Deramandi), NCR ( Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Gurugram, Manesar) Hastinapur.
South-East Delhi, East Delhi ( Preet Vihar, Akshardham, Nehru Stadium, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji), NCR ( Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula) Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Charkhi Dadri, Mattanhail, Jhajjar (Haryana) Muzaffarnagar, Baraut, Pilakhua (U.P.) during next 2 hours, the IMD said.

The weatherman also predicted light-intensity rain in Sambhal, Billari, Chandausi, Anupshahar, Bahajoi, Bareilly, Debai, Narora, Sahaswan (U.P.) . Light intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of NCR ( Ghaziabad, Chhapraula) Bawal (Haryana) Bijnaur, Hastinapur, Chandpur, Daurala, Meerut, Modinagar, Kithor, Amroha, Moradabad, Pilakhua, Hapur, Jalesar, Shikohabad (U.P.) Kotputli, Viratnagar (Rajasthan) during the next 2 hours.
Several areas in UP including Chandpur, Daurala, Meerut, Modinagar, Kithor, Pilakhua, Hapur, Sahaswan, Badayun, Jalesar, Etah, Sadabad, Tundla, Mainpuri, Agra, Firozabad, Shikohabad (U.P.) were also likely to receive rainfall during the next 2 hours.
Kuldeep Srivastava, a scientist at India Meteorological Department told TOI, "Biparjoy was in the form of depression till Sunday. It’s near south Haryana and northeast Rajasthan, which is very close to National Capital Region (NCR). It has now weakened into a low-pressure system, which is feeding excessive moisture into the region. Thus, the activities started around 1pm in NCR, with the band of rain moving north on Monday. In Delhi, the rain occurred between 2.30pm and 5pm."
