Delhi CM Awaits Congress' response on Centre's Delhi Ordinance

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday ahead of the Bengaluru Opposition meeting said that he is awaiting Congress' statement on the denouncement of Centre's Delhi Ordinance. During an Opposition meeting in Patna last month, the Grand Old Party assured Kejriwal that a statement on the Ordinance would be issued well before the start of Parliament's Monsoon Session. With only 10 days until the start of the session, Congress has remained silent on the subject.

Kejriwal told the media on Saturday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had received the invitation to the Opposition meeting, but he was still waiting for the Congress' response on the Ordinance.

While discussing the matter, AAP MP Raghav Chadha stated that the Congress had stated that the announcement would be made 15 days before the start of the Parliamentary session.

AAP certainly got the invite to the opposition meeting in Bengaluru from Congress.

However, the Congress party in the Patna meeting said that they will clear their stand on the Delhi Ordinance 15 days prior to the monsoon session of the Parliament.

The Opposition meeting in Bengaluru will be held on July 17-18.

What Is Delhi Ordinance

The Centre issued an order on May 19 to establish an authority for the transfer and posting of IAS and DANICS officials in Delhi, which the AAP government condemned as a violation of the Supreme Court's decision on control of services.

The ordinance, which was passed a week after the Supreme Court gave the elected government of Delhi control over all services except for police, public order, and land, aims to create a National Capital Civil Service Authority to handle transfers of Group-A officers and disciplinary actions against them.

Prior to the Supreme Court's decision on May 11, the Lieutenant Governor exercised executive authority over all officer transfers and postings within the Delhi government.
