Background

MCD Results 2022 Live: Welcome to ABP Live as we bring to you detailed coverage of the high-voltage Delhi civic polls. The counting of votes polled in the 250 wards of the Delhi Municipal Corporation will be counting today and the results will be declared. Authorities are all geared up for the counting of votes as 42 centres have been set up for the exercise which will begin at 8 am amid tight security. The run-up to the polls saw a fierce battle between the ruling BJP and the AAP which has been predicted as the winner by exit polls.

Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 50.48 per cent in the high-stakes municipal polls held on December 4, results of which are likely to have ramifications beyond the national capital.

Both the AAP and the BJP have exuded confidence that they will emerge victorious in the polls while the Congress is seeking to regain lost turf.

In the 2017 civic election, the BJP won 181 of the 272 wards. Polling could not be held on two seats due to the death of candidates. The AAP had won 48 wards and the Congress 27. The voting percentage that year was around 53 per cent.

There are 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and 1,349 candidates are in the fray in this election. Votes will be counted on December 7.

This is the first civic election after the fresh delimitation exercise, and the poll was held days after the first phase of the Gujarat assembly elections, and a day ahead of its second phase.

Authorities had set up 13,638 polling stations across Delhi for the exercise.

This was also the first civic polls held in the national capital after the February 2020 riots in Delhi, and according to data shared by officials, 3,360 booths, spanning 493 locations, were identified in critical or sensitive categories.

MCD Exit Poll Results 2022

According to poll of exit polls, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to sweep the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election. Most exit polls have predicted that the ruling party in Delhi would bag over 145 of the 250 wards in the MCD polls. This was the first civic election in Delhi after the fresh delimitation exercise.

According to an exit poll by Aaj Tak, AAP may get 149-171 wards. Another exit poll by Times Now shows Arvind Kejriwal's party getting anywhere between 146 and 156 wards.

A victory in the MCD polls will not only cement AAP's position in Delhi but will also give the party confidence to take forward its national ambitions and emerge as a serious contender to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Garbage collection and landfills emerged as one of the biggest issues in the fight between AAP and the BJP.

The high-voltage election campaign saw BJP deploying its top leaders, including national president JP Nadda, 19 Union ministers like Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal and chief ministers of six states.

People Fed Up Of Negative Politics: Kejriwal

After the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday clinched a clear majority in the Municipal Corporation election, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the verdict was a message for the whole country to do positive politics.

While addressing the party members at AAP headquarters here, Kejriwal said the people were fed up with the negative politics and will not tolerate that anymore.

"We don't believe in negative politics and don't do the politics of abusing one another. We had asked the vote in the name of good governance, better education system and healthcare and for the honest government, and the people have blessed us with their support," Kejriwal said. (IANS)
