Lucrative Offers In Exchange For Support To AAP: BJP Councillor After MCD Polls

Dr Monika Pant, a BJP councillor, claimed she was approached by a woman named Shikha Garg who promised her rich promises in exchange for her support for AAP during the mayoral elections.

Days after Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) swept the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Dr Monika Pant accused the party of giving her "lucrative offers" in exchange for her support for AAP during Mayor elections.

She stated that a woman named Shikha Garg made her monetary offers in exchange for her support for the AAP. Harish Khurana, the spokesperson for the Delhi BJP, stated that the party will submit a complaint to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The official Twitter account for the Delhi BJP tweeted about it, saying, "It is a warning to Arvind Kejriwal." "They are BJP’s councillors and not AAP councillors who will get sold. Don’t try to lure BJP councillors. AAP might be up for sale, BJP can’t get sold.”

In a press conference, BJP spokespersons Shehzad Poonawalla and Harish Khurana also addressed the issue.

This development comes hours after two newly elected Congress councillors and party leader Ali Mehdi joined back the grand old party hours after joining the Aam Aadmi Party. They later apologised as well.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ousted the Bharatiya Janata Party's (15-year) hegemony at the Delhi municipal corporation on Wednesday (December 7, 2022), with the final results showing the party's overall score at 134.

According to State Election Commission estimates, the BJP has won 104 seats, despite exit polls predicting a huge defeat. The Congress was only able to get nine seats. Three Independent candidates also won, including Shakeela Begum from Seelampur in northeast Delhi.
