Delhi Sees Sudden Weather Change, Rain With Thunderstorms Bring Respite On Holi

IMD on Tuesday predicted Delhi to see partly cloudy skies on Holi, even as the maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 31.3 degrees Celsius.

Warm weather took a turn when parts of Delhi on the day of Holi, Wednesday, were lashed with a bout of rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The sudden change of weather in Delhi brings respite from the rising heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi was predicted to log a minimum temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius on Holi and the maximum temperature was predicted to settle at 31 degrees Celsius.

The national capital witnessed a warm and sunny day as people celebrated Holi in full swing after years of muted festivities due to covid-19.  The MeT department has predicted the temperature to rise to 34 degrees Celsius by the weekend.

On Tuesday, IMD had predicted Delhi to see partly cloudy skies on Holi, even as the maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 31.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, PTI reported.

According to recent IMD data, the average maximum temperature in Delhi during February this year was recorded at 27.7 degrees Celsius. This was the third-highest temperature in the past 63 years.

Additionally, the Indian Meteorological Department reported that the country experienced its warmest February on record, with maximum temperatures reaching 29.54 degrees Celsius.

Furthermore, the meteorological office has stated that there is an increased likelihood of heat waves occurring from March to May.

PM Modi Chaired High-Level Meeting To Review Preparedness For Hot Weather Conditions

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a high-level meeting to assess the country's readiness for the approaching summer season and emphasized the need for tailored awareness materials for various stakeholders, including the general public, medical professionals, local authorities, and disaster response teams.

The Prime Minister directed the India Meteorological Department to generate daily weather reports that are easy to understand and distribute.

He further emphasized the significance of conducting thorough fire safety inspections of all hospitals and urged firefighters to perform simulated fire drills in all hospitals.
