Delhi MCD Polls 2022: Don't Vote For Those Who Want To Stop Development, Says CM Kejriwal

Delhi MCD Polls 2022: In an apparent reference to the BJP, Delhi CM stated: "Do not vote for those who want to stop the development and welfare work in Delhi."

Delhi MCD Polls 2022: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, advised voters on Sunday not to support candidates in the forthcoming municipal elections who wish to halt the development and welfare activities in the capital, news agency PTI reported.

Speaking at a public gathering in Paharganj, he stated that while his administration had improved hospitals and schools, it was unable to make significant progress in the area of sanitation since the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was in charge of that (MCD).

The BJP, which has controlled the civic body for 15 years and is running for a fourth term, is allegedly aiming to build another rubbish mountain in Delhi, according to the chief minister.

Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal's deputy, joined him.

In an apparent reference to the BJP, Delhi CM stated: "Do not vote for those who want to stop the development and welfare work in Delhi."

"During our tenure, we improved schools and hospitals, provided free electricity and water besides installing CCTVs and building mohalla clinics. But we feel sad that we could not do anything to improve sanitation as it is the responsibility of the MCD. Give us one chance to clean Delhi and we will deliver results," he added.

Slamming BJP, Kejriwal said the party has "deployed LG sahab to stop my work".

"You have to support those who do the work and develop Delhi," he told the gathering.

The BJP is "planning," according to the chief minister, to build another garbage mountain along Basant Road.

"They (BJP) will collect garbage from Karol Bagh and throw it on Basant Road. There will be a garbage mountain within a year. There will be a foul smell in the entire area, and mosquitoes and flies will breed at the landfill site. I guarantee you that we will not let them create a garbage mountain at any cost," he said.

Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla are the three landfill locations in the national capital.

Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has constantly criticised the BJP throughout its 15-year reign in the municipal corporation for its "failure" to clean the garbage sites as part of its campaign for the MCD elections on December 4.

These dumping yards, which hold tonnes of legacy garbage, have experienced fires throughout the years, engulfing the surrounding communities in smoke for days.

The chief minister further asserted that the BJP was involved in a "conspiracy" to halt Delhi's free electricity supply.

"But Kejriwal will not let them succeed," he said.

Kejriwal exuded assurance that the AAP will this time drive the BJP out of the MCD.

"We will win the MCD polls," he said, adding, "You gave me 67 out of the 70 seats in the assembly elections. I am fond of the taste of such victories. I do not want anything less than that." "We will solve all your issues and develop your area. If you vote for the BJP, progress in your area will get stalled. They will make your life miserable," he said.

MCD Polls 2022

According to the polling schedule released by the state electoral board last week, elections for the MCD will be place on December 4 and the results will be tallied on December 7.

MCD is an essential part of municipal administration and affects people on a daily basis, hence the contest involves high stakes for both the AAP and the BJP. Nearly 80% of Delhi is administered by the municipal authority, which offers almost as many services as the city government.

It will be the AAP's second attempt at a civic election. The AAP was unable to defeat the BJP at MCD despite sweeping to historic victory in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections.

The elections will be crucial for the BJP, which has controlled the MCD for three straight terms, to keep control of the local political scene after suffering two consecutive losses at the assembly elections.
